The difference

Where BackPR is different

Free for nonprofits

Nonprofits pay nothing to BackPR. SportsEngine HQ Premium costs $69 a month or $749 a year, and SportsEngine publishes no nonprofit pricing.

No platform fee on payments

For nonprofits, BackPR adds nothing on top of Stripe's standard rates. SportsEngine charges its own management fee on every payment; its help center example is 3.25% + $2.00, with the $2.00 repeated for each payment-plan installment.

No minimums or annual contract

Cancel BackPR anytime. SportsEngine HQ Premium becomes a one-year contract after 90 days and charges $300 at renewal if you process less than $1,000 in a year.

Registration in English and Spanish

Families can register in English or Spanish. SportsEngine's help center suggests adding a Google Translate widget to registration pages.

In fairness

What SportsEngine does well

SportsEngine HQ puts registration, invoicing, a club website, scheduling, rosters, stats and standings, and a team mobile app in one platform, with integrated background checks and safety training. Its free version covers sign-ups and invoicing, and sister products cover gyms and swim clubs, tournaments, volleyball events and live streaming.
