Sports Connect and PlayMetrics: what independent leagues can do

Sports Connect, the registration platform from Stack Sports, "joined PlayMetrics" when the two companies merged in June 2025. Little League, AYSO (the American Youth Soccer Organization) and at least one state soccer association are moving to PlayMetrics' own software, and in December 2025 AYSO wrote that the parent company planned to retire Sports Connect in 2027. Here's what's confirmed, what isn't and what to do if you run an independent league or club.

What's been announced

Since the merger, PlayMetrics and several organizations that use Sports Connect have said they are moving to PlayMetrics' software:

  • December 2025: AYSO told its regions that the parent company would retire Sports Connect and its Association Platform (the version state associations use) in 2027 and move organizations to PlayMetrics. AYSO has since removed that notice from its website. Its training pages now prepare regions to use PlayMetrics for the 2027 membership year, AYSO's registration year.
  • February 2026: Little League said Central Registration, the national system every US Little League uses for player registration, would run through PlayMetrics beginning with the 2027 season.
  • Nebraska State Soccer (undated notice): the state association told its clubs that Stack Sports is shutting down the association product it used, and that PlayMetrics is its provider from the 2026–27 season.
  • As of October 21, 2026, we found no shutdown date published by PlayMetrics or Stack Sports for all Sports Connect customers.

Where that leaves independent leagues

If you run an independent league (one that isn't on Sports Connect through Little League, AYSO or a state association), no move date or deadline has been announced for you. You have time to plan, but it's worth asking now. What isn't settled yet:

  • Dates for independent leagues. We found no published timeline. Nebraska State Soccer told its clubs that PlayMetrics would contact them about pricing, contract status and the future of the product.
  • Little League's timing. Little League chose PlayMetrics for the 2027 season, but some league administrators report being told since then that the date has moved. We found no public notice either way, so confirm it with your district administrator.
  • Pricing after a move. PlayMetrics says it will honor Little League's current pricing model. We found no published pricing for other customers.
  • Your records. AYSO told its regions not to import their old Sports Connect data into PlayMetrics and said families will create new accounts. AYSO regions keep access to Sports Connect through September 2027 to look things up. Other organizations may be handled differently, so ask what moves with you and how long you can read your old records.

Who can choose a different platform

Not every league can switch. Little League requires every league in the United States to use its official registration platform for player registration, and AYSO regions follow AYSO's choice of platform, now PlayMetrics. If you're part of one of those programs, follow your national organization's plan.

Independent leagues and clubs can usually pick their next platform. If your state association now uses PlayMetrics, you may be able to use another platform but still have to send player data to the association. Check your contract and your governing body's rules before you switch.

What to do now

  • Ask Sports Connect or PlayMetrics, in writing, whether and when your organization will move, what it will cost and what happens to your current contract.
  • Export everything now and keep a copy: families, players, registrations, payment and refund history, balances owed and volunteer records. Save the files where your board can reach them.
  • Find your renewal date and notice period. Our Sports Connect comparison summarizes the terms we found.
  • Pick your timing. Move between seasons, after last season's refunds and balances are settled and before registration opens again.
  • Tell families early. A new platform usually means new accounts, so explain the change before registration opens.
  • Compare your options, PlayMetrics included: see BackPR next to PlayMetrics, LeagueApps, TeamSnap and GotSport.

Moving to BackPR

If you're free to choose, BackPR is one option. We set up your account and import your families, players and programs from a spreadsheet or another system's export at no cost, and there's no long-term contract. You can export your data at any time. BackPR is free for registered nonprofits: no subscription and no BackPR fees, and BackPR never adds its own fee to what families pay. Card payments run on Stripe at Stripe's standard rates. Pricing for other organizations is by quote. See how switching works. More on BackPR for sports programs.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is Sports Connect shutting down?

No shutdown date has been published for every customer. In December 2025, AYSO wrote that Sports Connect's parent company planned to retire it in 2027 (AYSO has since removed that notice). AYSO and Little League are moving to PlayMetrics. As of October 21, 2026, we found no date for leagues that use Sports Connect independently.

Do we have to move to PlayMetrics?

Little League and AYSO programs follow their national organization's choice. Independent leagues and clubs can usually pick any platform. Check your contract and your governing body's rules.

Will our data move to PlayMetrics?

It depends on your organization. AYSO told its regions not to import old Sports Connect data and said families will create new accounts. Either way, export your records now and keep a copy.

Can BackPR import our Sports Connect data?

Yes. If you can export it to a spreadsheet, we import your families, players and programs at no cost.
