Tips

How to use it well

  • Ask for food allergies up front and plan snacks around them.
  • Screen every volunteer as your church's child safety policy requires before VBS starts.
  • Use name tags with a color for each group and a discreet symbol, known only to staff, for children with allergies or no photo permission.
  • Collect forms before the first day so check-in goes quickly.

Rules on ratios, medication and reporting vary by state. See your state in our state-by-state rules for youth programs.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What should a VBS registration form ask?

The child's name, age and grade, parent contacts, an emergency contact, who may pick up, allergies (especially food, since VBS serves snacks), photo permission and emergency care consent.

Do VBS volunteers need background checks?

Most churches require them for adults who work with children, and many insurers do too. Follow your church's child safety policy.
