Infant daily report

A daily sheet for each baby: feedings, naps, diapers, mood and notes, so families know how their baby's day went.

Tips

How to use it well

  • Fill it out as the day goes on, not at the end of the day. Write the time right after each feeding, nap and diaper change.
  • Use the sleep table to show that each baby was put down on their back, as AAP and NICHD Safe to Sleep guidance advises and your safe sleep policy says.
  • If a baby seems unwell, don't wait for pickup. Call the family and follow your sick child policy.
  • Check your state's licensing rules on infant records, such as how often to check sleeping babies and whether to keep feeding, sleep and diaper records. Find your state's rules at backpr.com/resources/states.

Rules on ratios, medication and reporting vary by state. See your state in our state-by-state rules for youth programs.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What goes on an infant daily report?

Feedings (time, what and how much), naps (when the baby fell asleep and woke up), diaper changes, mood, activities, supplies to bring and notes for the family. Many programs also ask families to write down how the night and morning went at drop-off.

Do daycares have to give parents a daily report for infants?

Rules vary by state. Some states require programs to keep feeding, sleep or diaper records for infants or share them with families, and many programs share a daily report anyway because families want to know how their baby's day went. Check your state's licensing rules.
