## Credit card fee calculator: absorb the fee or pass it on
Free calculator at https://backpr.com/tools/card-fee-calculator. It runs in your browser; nothing you enter is sent to BackPR.

Enter your registration price, how many registrations you expect and your card rate. See what the fees cost your program if you absorb them, and what families pay if you pass them on.

### How it works
If you absorb the fee, each payment costs you the percentage rate times the price, plus the fixed fee per payment.

If you pass the fee on and still want to receive the full price, the amount you charge has to cover the fee on the added amount too: charge = (price + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − rate). That's why families pay a little more than the fee on the price alone.

**Does BackPR add a fee to card payments?**
Not for nonprofits, and BackPR never adds its own fee to what families pay. Payments are processed by Stripe at Stripe's standard rates, and you choose whether to absorb that fee or pass it on to families.

**Why do families pay a bit more than the original fee?**
The processor takes its percentage from the whole amount charged, including the part you added. To receive the full price, the added amount has to cover that too.

**Can we pass card fees on to families?**
Many programs do. Rules on surcharges and convenience fees differ by state and card network, so check the rules that apply to your organization before you add one.

## Payment plan calculator: build an installment schedule
Free calculator at https://backpr.com/tools/payment-plan-calculator. It runs in your browser; nothing you enter is sent to BackPR.

Enter the total cost, the deposit and how many payments you want. Get an installment schedule with dates and amounts that add up exactly.

### How it works
The balance after the deposit is split into equal payments in whole cents. If it doesn't divide evenly, the last payment carries the extra cents, so the schedule always adds up to the total.

Weekly and every-other-week plans count forward from the first payment date. Monthly plans fall on the same day each month.

**Can BackPR collect payment plans automatically?**
Yes. You set deposits and installment schedules per program, and the family's saved payment method is charged automatically on each date. Nonprofits pay nothing to BackPR for this.

**How many payments should a plan have?**
Many programs end the plan before the program starts, so the full fee is paid by the first day. This calculator lets you try different numbers of payments and see the amounts.

## Sibling discount calculator: price a family's registrations
Free calculator at https://backpr.com/tools/sibling-discount-calculator. It runs in your browser; nothing you enter is sent to BackPR.

Set a price per child, a second-child discount and one discount for every child after that. See each child's price, the family total and how much the family saves.

### How it works
The first child pays the full price. The second child gets the second-child discount, and every child after that gets the third-child discount.

A percent discount takes a share off the price; a dollar discount takes off a fixed amount. No child's price goes below $0.

**Does BackPR apply sibling discounts automatically?**
Yes. Parents add each child and each program to one cart and check out once, and sibling discounts apply automatically if you set them up.

**Percent or dollar amount: which is better?**
A percent discount grows with the price, so it suits programs with very different prices. A dollar amount is easier for families to understand and keeps the cost to your program predictable.
