Capacity is the most children a program may care for at once, not enrollment or open spots. Children are ages 0 to 12, from July 1, 2024 estimates; seats are from the snapshot date. States where fewer than 95% of listings publish a capacity have a minimum seat count and are left out of per-child figures, totals and scores. States without a statewide list with capacity have no per-child figure. Scores (0 to 100) rank a state against the other states with a per-child figure; for ratios, fewer children per adult scores higher.",
